Opening times & travel
directions to Thorpe Park
A
line up of buttock clenching, high-octane thrill rides will promise a
sensational 2010 season at the thrilling Thorpe Park.
Opening on
March 2009, guests can look forward to the arrival of the SAW - THE RIDE plus
the mighty Samurai
from Chessington World of Adventures, plus the return of the sizzling
Nemesis Inferno, the record breaking ten looping Colossus and an
abundance of adrenaline soaked sensations.
THORPE PARK INVESTS £13.5M IN THE WORLD’S MOST TERRIFYING AND STEEPEST FREEFALL
DROP ROLLERCOASTER - ‘SAW – THE RIDE’
-
The world’s steepest freefall drop rollercoaster
that plummets people from a 100ft high 100̊ beyond vertical drop into the
the unique SAW ‘head chopper’
-
Europe’s most extreme G-force experience and first ever
horror film themed rollercoaster
The UK’s thrill capital THORPE PARK has today revealed
details of its biggest ever investment in a rollercoaster, SAW – The Ride,
launching on Friday 13th March 2009.
SAW
– The Ride
is the 4th major rollercoaster to launch at THORPE PARK with a total
investment of £13.5 million, underlining the commitment and continuing
confidence in both the Park and its ‘thrill’ positioning by the attraction’s
owner, the Merlin Entertainments Group, the world’s number two visitor
attraction operator.
It follows
the £12 million launch of Stealth (one of Europe’s fastest rollercoasters) in
2006, and the £10 million investment in both Colossus (the world’s first ten
looping rollercoaster) and Nemesis Inferno (the extreme 4.5 G-force experience)
in 2002 and 2003 respectively at the Park.
SAW – The
Ride
is based on the most popular horror film franchise in history, ‘SAW’, and boasts
the world’s steepest freefall drop rollercoaster that plummets people
from a 100ft high 100̊ beyond vertical drop into the nerve shredding SAW ‘head
chopper’. The ride also delivers the biggest G-force
rollercoaster experience in Europe hitting a massive 4.0 and 4.7 G a total
of six times throughout the course of the 100 second ride duration.
Mike Vallis,
Divisional Director at THORPE PARK comments: “We’re really excited about the
launch of SAW – The Ride. The significant financial backing
we have received for the project from Merlin means that we have been able to
develop an excellent overall ride experience both in terms of an impressive and
terrifying track as well as top class theming.
We believe
this is the year of the ‘summer roller-day’ with many people
planning to spend their leisure pound more cost effectively on UK based holidays
over foreign breaks and more smartly on high quality days out at theme parks
such as THORPE PARK.
THORPE PARK
experienced a good increase in footfall on the 2008 season during our special
week-long 2009 half term opening and are forecasting similar uplifts for the
Easter and summer holiday periods as Brits prepare to have some fun on home
soil.”
New research
recently released by Visit London and VisitBritain
showed that around 20 per cent of Brits who took a foreign holiday last year
(2008) plan to save money by choosing the UK as their holiday destination in
2009. 51% are ‘put off’ travelling abroad by the belief that flight costs are
rising and a further 36% are concerned about the ‘unpredictability’ of tour
operators.
SAW – The Ride
launches at THORPE PARK on Saturday 14th March 2009. For further

NEW
: SAMURAI – THE MIGHT OF THE ORIENT
The warlord of white
knuckle rides, Samurai takes riders through 360 degrees of sensational
stimulation and like the famed warriors of Japan it is capable of
unleashing mighty forces of fearsome energy. Riders are strapped into
five seater pods with their legs dangling frighteningly free and then
lifted and rotated by a giant mechanical arm, gradually building speed
and creating G-forces of plus 5 and minus 3 as well as a centrifugal
force which sets the pods spinning 360 degrees 60 feet above the
ground. Only the truly mentally and physically prepared should dare to
attempt to transcend their fears and take on the formidable force of the
mighty Samurai. It is guaranteed to leave the uninitiated dazed,
disorientated – and full of respect.

RED HOT
360 DEGREES : NEMESIS INFERNO
One
of the world’s most intense, disorientating, exhilarating roller
coasters with the temperature turned up, NEMESIS INFERNO is a gut
wrenching, raw adrenaline fuelled suspended coaster and with unique
volcanic theming and effects, this white hot legs dangling experience
gives a new meaning to “hot footing it”! With their legs dangling free,
riders will swoop through over 750 metres of suspended track, turn
through gravity-defying 360 degree loops, plunging from soaring heights
to dreadful depths, at speeds of up to 77km and G-Forces of up to 4.5,
with the heat quite literally turned up, in one of the world’s most
incredible roller coaster experiences.
THE POWER OF TEN : COLOSSUS
Coaster fans can’t get enough of the world’s FIRST ten looping roller
coaster. Hurtling over 850 metres of relentlessly twisting track at
hair raising speeds of 65km, riders will whizz through ten almighty
loops.
From the sky-rocketing 360 degree loop, to the giant flipping
double cobra, the deadly duo of spiral loops and breath-taking series of
in-line twists over water and through the air, Colossus promises a
phenomenal dizzying, disorientating experience that will stay with you!
AND
AN ABUNDANCE OF ADRENALINE SOAKED SENSATIONS
Also on the list of “must ride” thrill sensations for 2008 is the
gravity defying Detonator – an explosive, gravity defying drop
ride that winches riders 100ft in the air before firing them back to
earth at 75km per hour with a G-Force of 5.5. Not for those with a fear
of heights is the vertigo inducing Vortex which goes through 15
high speed rotations per minute whilst swinging back and forth 65 feet
in the air. And strong stomachs are recommended for anyone riding
Quantum – seated on a platform, riders are lifted high into the air
to be lurched to and fro on the way back down to the ground just to take
off in the same stomach churning movements yet again … and again … and
again!Add
in Tidal Wave, one of the highest water drop rides in Europe that
plunges riders a buttock-clenching 85ft through water, the world’s first
dark backwards coaster, X:/No Way Out and the white water
thrill-fest of the adrenaline charged river ride, Ribena Rumba Rapids
and Thorpe Park is undoubtedly the park to take thrills to the max in
2007.
